Mini Farm Update...and man does time fly.

I was just thinking I wanted to catch up a bit here, in the interest of capturing this first year on Li'l Blue House Farm and its progress for posterity and internet socialization and whatnot, and looked at some of the more recent pictures I've taken around the house. And then realized that they weren't at all up to date, because things are growing at the speed of photosynthesis around here (fast!) and soon we are going to buried under a vast mountain of tomatoes and zucchini. I hope. Maybe. I don't actually want to be buried under anything. Yikes.

So what seems like just a few days ago I took these pictures:

I am always saying that gardening is a great test of patience, because it seems like sometimes things take forever to grow, flower and fruit. This is definitely the case with brussels sprouts, which I have been waiting on for two years now. Also, I've wanted to go big and wild with the landscaping and flowers, which takes years, to go from lawn to cottage garden delightful. I've been working on it, the patience. It means starting from seed and waiting and taking care and staking, but it feels worthwhile. We've had a few meals lately which were almost completely harvested from our garden, and that is gratification for the effort.

But this all seems very fast, this spring-into-summer. From what was bare ground four months ago we are harvesting potatoes and cucumbers and cauliflower. There is a jungle of tomatoes that were just wee sprouts,  like yesterday. I guess the take home from all of it is that it is important to honor the process, the slow growth and the overnight abundance, the flower and the fruit. I'll try to keep that in mind, when I'm waving for salvation from beneath Produce Mountain.
